Smith Lake People: Gilliland's Island

Much like the sitcom, Gilligan's Island, that aired from 1964 to 1967, Smith Lake has an 'island' that goes by a similar name, Gilliland's Island on Crooked Creek. Our island isn't based on the adventures of seven castaways who are attempting to survive where they are shipwrecked, but more so a families happy place where adventures are had and memories are made!

The Gilliland family has been coming to Smith Lake for many years. It all started with renting a home for their family to gather. The soon-to-be promoted to "MawMaw & Grandaddy" {Gwen & Ellis Gilliland} decided it was time make Smith Lake a permanent fixture in the family with the birth of their first grandchild drawing near. That was eight years ago and their sweet grandson, Evan, has grown up loving everything Smith Lake has to offer! Many thanks to that wise decision by his Grandparents before he was born!

Evan's parents, Cindi and Chris Gilliland, have shared their love of wake boarding with him! This family makes the most of their time together on the lake, whether it's paddle boarding, kayaking, tubing, canoeing, fishing or riding the wave runner ~ they keep Crooked Creek moving! Gilliland's Island has even been home to a wedding and there is always something tasty on their grill!
Coming to the lake isn't just for leisure for the Gilliland family as they have been a part of Wake the World, one of Smith's most noted charities, since the beginning. They also do their part to keep Smith Lake the cleanest lake in Alabama. As you have know and have come to see this isn't the story of an island or people, but a family who is making memories to be cherished for many years to come!  Follow along with The Gilliland's Island crew on instagram as they share their happy moments of memories made on our Smith Lake!
